Abstract

The increasingly intense dynamics of business competition in the era of globalization compel firms to formulate strategies that are not merely reactive but also anticipatory of competitor movements. The game theory approach offers a formal analytical framework enabling firms to model strategic interactions quantitatively and measurably. This study aims to analyze corporate competitive strategies using a game theory approach within the perspective of strategic management, encompassing payoff matrix construction, dominant strategy identification, Nash Equilibrium analysis, and the application of Cournot, Bertrand, and Stackelberg models. A quantitative method was employed using primary data from 120 managerial respondents across retail, telecommunications, and manufacturing sectors, supplemented by industry documentation studies. Results indicate that most strategic interactions between firms converge at Nash Equilibrium in mixed strategies, with a game value of +1.75% anticipated market share increase in the retail sector; the telecommunications sector exhibits a prisoner's dilemma phenomenon in price competition; and the manufacturing sector confirms first-mover advantages under the Stackelberg model. The discussion of results affirms that game theory is not merely an abstract mathematical tool but a strategic thinking framework of high practical relevance for managers. This study contributes theoretically by integrating game theory into Indonesian strategic management literature, while practically recommending firms adopt formal game-theoretic analysis in long-term competitive strategy planning.
